Changes For 2011
There are several changes upcoming in 2011 that we wanted to make you aware of. All of the major international couriers have significantly increased their shipping rates due to increased fuel charges. Additionally, they have reset the formula used to calculate dimensional weight.
While UPS and the other courier services are increasing rates almost 10%, Ship2me is slightly adjusting our rate structure to account for the increase in fuel prices. This adjustment is an approximate 3-4% rise in our overall costs.
Calculating Dimensional Weight
In determining the shipping weight of a parcel, international delivery companies use either the actual weight or the dimensional weight. Please note that this dimensional weight factor used by ALL courier services (UPS, Fedex, DHL) was changed on Jan 3, 2011 to 139.
The dimensional weight is used for parcels that are relatively light yet the box is quite large. This dimensional weight (sometimes referred to as "dims" weight) is computed by multiplying the Height x Width x Depth of the package in inches , and then dividing this number by 139 (HxWxD/139). This total equates to the DIMS weight.
If the DIMS weigh exceeds the actual weight, then the DIMS weight will be used to compute the shipping charges.
Example:
A box weighs 18 lbs and has an exterior dimension of 36"H x 16"W x 6"D.
The DIMS weight (18x18x10/139) equals 23.3 lbs. The shipping weight for this item would be 24 lbs.
This is considerably more than the 18 lb actual weight, and should be factored by the customer when deciding to purchase this item.
